About Petual
Built by auditors who ran out of patience for spreadsheets
We spent years in internal audit watching the same cycle play out: evidence requests sent by email, status tracked in a column on a workpaper, exceptions logged in a separate spreadsheet that never matched the workpaper. Petual is what we wished we had.
The problem we are solving
Internal audit teams are skilled professionals. But in practice, a significant share of each cycle goes to coordination work that does not require professional judgment: sending reminders, chasing documents, re-mapping evidence to controls in a spreadsheet, and reformatting workpapers for review. The tools available before Petual were either generic project management software adapted for audit, or legacy GRC platforms that generate forms but do not automate the work inside them. Neither understands audit-speak. Neither knows that a change management ticket belongs under ITGC-04 and not ITGC-01. We built Petual specifically for the evidence-to-workpaper workflow, starting from the control matrix and ending with a signed, review-ready document.

Our approach
How we think about building for audit teams
Audit trail first
Every action in Petual is logged: who requested what, when it was received, who mapped it to which control, and who reviewed the conclusion. The audit trail is not a separate report. It is the system.
Reviewer-ready by default
Workpapers generated by Petual are structured for review from the first draft. The preparer does not format for the reviewer. The reviewer does not wade through a spreadsheet to find the conclusion. The format is the discipline.
Auditor judgment is irreplaceable
We automate the coordination work, not the professional judgment. Petual collects the evidence and structures the workpaper. The auditor evaluates the population, identifies exceptions, and signs the conclusion. The machine does the routing; the auditor does the audit.
Working with early-access teams to get this right
We onboard each team personally. Bring your control matrix and your current workpaper process. We will map it to Petual and work through the first engagement cycle together.
